How do breather vents work?

Breather vents are considered a free flowing vent that does not restrict air movement. Unline vent and relief vent fittings, breather vents do not feature a valve that opens and shuts. As pressure changes in a housing, air is pushed and pulled freely through the breather vent.

How do vent fittings work?

Vent fittings, which include relief vents and vent fittings, open and close with changing housing pressures using spring technology. When pressure in a housing increases above a pre‑defined threshold, the spring in the valve is compressed, opening the valve. As the pressure decreases, the valve closes.

What causes oil to come out of the breather?

Excess lubricant from over filling is a common cause for oil leaking out of a breather or vent fitting. As pressure in the housing increases, oil is pushed out through the open fitting. Other causes include fittings that are located below the fluid level or a malfunctioning fitting.

What is a header block?

A header block, or a junction block, is a hub for multiple grease fittings to be collected in a single location. This provides easy access to fittings that are in hard to reach locations allowing for fast, efficient servicing of equipment.

What does a header block include?

Header blocks are equipped with 3 or 6 hydraulic grease fittings along with tube connectors. The compression style tube connectors accommodate plastic, nylon, and steel 1/4" tubing. The header block body is manufactured from zinc plated steel with two drilled holes for convenient mounting. Custom header block designs are available by special request.

BULKHEAD CONNECTORS

How do you install a bulkhead fitting?

  1. To install, drill a hole in the work piece slightly larger than the male end of the bulkhead fitting.
  2. Insert the threaded male end of the fitting into the hole of the work piece.
  3. Thread the bulkhead connector nut onto the exposed end of the bulkhead fitting on the back end of the work piece.
  4. Place a wrench on the head of the bulkhead fitting and a wrench on the bulkhead connector nut.
  5. Hold the bulkhead fitting in a fixed position and begin tightening the connector nut until it is tight against the work piece.

How does a bulkhead fitting work?

A bulkhead fitting, also called a bulkhead tubing connector, creates a pass through for grease tubes to flow through a barrier such as a firewall or other protective plate by installing in a pre‑drilled hole. Their internal and external threaded design accommodates tube connectors for grease and oil transfer.

GREASE GUNS

Why does my grease gun get stuck on the fitting?

Grease guns get stuck on fittings when there is too much back pressure on the zerk fitting after grease is applied. Too much pressure can occur when excessive grease has been applied to the component or there is an obstruction in the grease fitting.

How do I break free a stuck grease gun coupler?

  • To break the grease gun free, pressure needs to be released.
  • Tilt the coupler to the side at approximatesly a 45° angle to the fitting and gently pull away from the fitting. If successful, grease will expel from between the fitting and the grease gun coupler.
  • If tilting the coupler fails, press the pressure relief valve that is equipped on the top of some grease guns. By pressing this valve, pressure is released allowing for safe removal of the grease gun from the fitting.

How do you bleed air from a grease gun?

For grease guns with a relief valve:

  1. Pull the plunger back to the bottom of the grease gun cartridge
  2. Press and hold the relief valve at top of the grease gun
  3. Action the grease gun pump until grease expels from the coupler
  4. Push the plunger back to the top of the grease gun cartridge
  5. Action the grease gun pump again until grease flows from the coupler

For grease guns without a relief valve:

  1. Pull the plunger back to the bottom of the grease gun cartridge
  2. Partially unscrew the cartridge from the grease gun head
  3. Rotate the plunger until you are unable to push it back in
  4. Action the grease gun pump until grease expels from the coupler
  5. Screw the cartridge securely against the grease gun head
  6. Push plunger back into the cartridge

Why does my grease gun not work?

  • Empty grease gun cartridge – Unscrew the grease gun cartridge and verify that it is still full of grease. If the cartridge is empty, replace it with a full cartridge.
  • An air bubble is in the grease gun head – If there is ample grease in the cartridge, follow our steps on how to bleed air from a grease gun.
  • Contaminates in grease – Debris in grease such as dirt, gravel, or plastic can clog couplers, pumps, and hoses. Thoroughly clean the grease gun as well as replace the tubes as needed to ensure no contaminates exist.

How does a bulk loader work?

Bulk loaders are a two part system that enables users to load grease guns from a bulk container. The male loader fitting that is attached to a grease gun fits into the female fitting on the grease filler pump. The female fitting features a rubber seal to prevent leaking during fluid transfer.

How does a grease gun coupler work?

  • Grease gun couplers transfer grease from the grease gun to a mechanical component by connecting to a grease fitting. Standard grease gun couplers feature internal jaws that snap onto hydraulic grease fittings.
  • As grease is pumped through the coupler to the fitting, pressure increases, tightening the coupler to the fitting to create a leak resistant connection.
  • Other styles of grease gun couplers include button head, flush, pin, and needle. These couplers are uniquely designed for fittings that do not accept standard grease fitting couplers.

How does an oil pump work?

Oil pumps dispense fluid from bulk containers to applicators or mechanical components by siphoning lubricants from the reservoir through the pump's outlet. Manual rotary gear, rotary vane, or lever oil pumps, as well as pneumatic wiper pumps, are popular styles that are suitable for low and high volume needs.

What are the different parts of a grease fitting multi tool?

  • Socket - The two socket ends of the multi tool fit over straight and angled grease zerks and can be used to tighten or loosen grease fittings.
  • Extractor - The extractor can be used when the hex portion of the fitting has been round off or if the head of the fitting has been broken away and a socket or wrench cannot be used to remove the fitting.
  • Tap - The tap is an excellent addition to the multi tool that allows the end user to clean out the threads to ensure ease of assembly.

How do I use a grease fitting multi tool?

  • Start by using the socket end of the tool to loosen the grease fitting.
  • If the socket end does not work or the fitting is broken, loosen the fitting by inserting the extractor bit into the center of the fitting.
  • Using the socket or extractor, rotate the multi tool counter clockwise to loosen the fitting.
  • Continue to loosen the fitting until it is completely free from the mating component.
  • Clean the threads of the mating component with the multi tool's tap.
