Tool Steel

Tool Steel

Tool steel is used in the manufacturing of tools that shape, form, cut, or manipulate other materials. It is made from carbon steel fortified with a range of alloys and treatment processes – particularly heat treatment – to increase hardenability, abrasion resistance, strength, and any other characteristic that help it withstand industrial tooling elements. Common applications include blades, dies, jackhammer bits, engraving machinery, and components subjected to extreme environmental or machinery conditions. Huyett offers tool steel drill rods, which are cold-drawn to tight tolerances and ready for heat treatment.
  • Often used to craft drill bits, hammers, shafts, or pins
  • Drill rod can be heat-treat for increased hardness or used in its original cold-drawn state for better machinability
  • Huyett offers drill rods in sizes spanning 3-12’ feet and diameters of up to 3” inches. Browse our drill rod assortments and magnetic labels to help with organization
