Retaining Rings and Shaft Collars

Retaining rings and shaft collars connect to shafts to retain, space out, or secure assembly elements. In many retaining ring applications, the fastener must be axially or radially installed into a machined groove, although several types feature self-locking mechanisms or teeth that provide security without a groove. For shaft collars, no groove is required since the collar uses a clamping force to stay in place.
  • Huyett offers many different types of retaining rings and retaining clips to accommodate applications with minimal clearance, high-speed rotation, aesthetic requirements, the need to limit material movement, and more.
  • Retaining rings are simple, economical fasteners that can replace multi-piece assemblies or as an alternative to cotter pins.
  • Double-split shaft collars and single-split shaft collars provide excellent holding power on shafts and are offered in aluminum and stainless or carbon steel.
  • Set shaft collars are ideal when the shaft material is softer than the set screw within the collar that will attach it to the shaft.
