Square Beveled Washers

Square beveled washers are a unique type of washer used where surfaces are not parallel. Unlike flat washers, which are used for mating parallel surfaces, square beveled washers feature a sloped side and a flat side, allowing them to adjust to different installation angles. This feature is crucial in applications like structural beams in construction, where the flanges of beams are often angled. Square beveled washers come in various sizes, materials, and finishes, which affect the strength and durability of the joint. Common materials include malleable iron, steel or structural grade or hardened steel, and stainless steel, while finishing options for some materials can include zinc clear.

Square beveled washers are particularly useful in structural applications, such as securing beams and columns in construction. When a threaded assembly needs to be mounted on top of an angled beam base, the angled face of the square beveled washer is placed on top of the base, which leaves the flat washer side facing up to provide a flat surface for mating fasteners; this eliminates the gap that the fasteners would have to overcome without a level surface. These washers are essential in maintaining the integrity of structures, especially in areas susceptible to environmental wear and tear. Additionally, their wedge-shaped design helps in distributing high loads and providing movement resistance to the bolt, which is vital in temperature fluctuating environments.
